SCARBOROUGHAND DISTRICT BEEKEEPERS' ASSOCIATION
Earlier in the year the Scarborough Bee Keeping Association were asked if we would like to take part in a ‘Countryside Awareness Day’ being held by the Dawnay Estate Wykeham.
230 primary school pupils from the Scarborough area were welcomed for a day at the estate. Various presentations were set up from lambing to beekeeping.
The children, split into 7 groups, spent approximately 30 minutes at each presentation within the old Abbey grounds before moving on to the next presentation.
The lively presentations were held between 10.00am and 2pm.
Our associations presentation began with a short 10-minute talk on bees and the beekeeper’s year, followed by 10 minutes at each of our 3 display areas to find out more, ask questions and taste some honey.
Many thanks to all the association members for their assistance in what turned out to be a rather hectic but very satisfying day.
A special thanks to Elise, Dianne and Alan W, also Hannah and all at the Dawnay Estate.
Looks like we will be back next year!!
