20/9/25 Yellow Legged Asian Hornet!!

Thanks to all the SDBKA members that informed us of your active monitoring traps and location.

With a recent sighting of a Yellow Legged Asian Hornet near Malton the YBKA is stepping up its actions and communications to better monitor the whole Yorkshire area. Info here:

Along with other district associations the YBKA have now adopted the national CATCH monitoring system.

The CATCH online system, and app, has been designed as a ‘bottom up’ approach and encourages all beekeepers and members of the public to register their monitoring traps and stations.
Details can be found here: Home - Asian Hornet Alert
You can register and sign up your trap / monitoring station here: AHA CATCH

The YBKA are keen to get the general public aware and involved. A poster has been created in the hope that beekeepers will get them printed put up in libraries, shops, areas of public access etc. The poster can be found here: YBKA-YLAH-Poster.pdf

A map has also been generated showing high risk points of entry and the location of all district beekeeping associations: Yorkshire’s High-risk Entry Points – Google My Maps

If the Yellow Legged Asian Hornet managed to establish a foothold in the UK and our local area the effect on beekeeping and local wildlife would be devastating. Please act where you can, please maintain monitoring stations and traps. Please join the CATH scheme if able.

Many thanks, Scarborough & District Beekeeping Association.
